Rolling Thunder Comes to Washington, D.C.
Memorial Day in Washington, D.C. is one of favorite times to shoot pictures. I love the Rolling Thunder as they shatter the sounds waves and roar into town. An Air Force Chaplain pulled his Harley up behind our car while I was shooting pictures of the U. S. Capitol. He explained that he had been in Dover, Delaware the last six months ministering to grieving families. He wanted to swing by Washington and pay his respects to the fallen on his way home. I asked if he would model for me so he pulled his Harley up on the sidewalk with the Capitol in the background. After I took a lot of shots he asked if I would take pictures of him with his camera.
My troubles escalated when I stepped backwards off the curb and fell into the gutter. After I was lifted out of the gutter and sitting in the car he asked if could pray for me. What a comforting prayer!
Well you guessed it. Compressed back fracture, black wrist and arm….. After 3 weeks I’m still recovering.
My silly husband looked at this stunning shot and asked “Was it worth it”?

The Church Cookies
My niece, Susan, named my famous oatmeal cookies “The Church Cookies” because I bake them every weekend and take them to the fellowship hour at Faith EPC. Check us out on the web in Kingstowne. By the way, the menu is from a short missionary trip to Australia, not from the church.

Baby Bird in Hand
The morning walk with my dog Bernie, the Schnauzer, brought great surprise. This baby bird was lying on the street. No tree was nearby. How did this happen? I quickly placed him in my big hand and headed home. My wife gently said “What shall we do with him?” as tears filled her eyes. “He’s just a little baby, we can’t let him die.”
I had no ideas but she said “I’ll take him to the science teacher at the elementary school.”
So off we went. I stayed in the car. My wife had placed him on some cotton balls in a little wooden bowl. She reported to me when she returned to the car that the school nurse looked at him and the science teacher was called. Mission accomplished.
Now my wife began to sob. “What’s the deal?” I asked.
“It is so strange” she replied, “that I would be so concerned about a baby bird when people are killing their babies…”
